Orange County Lighting :: Accent Lighting
Accent Lighting - Is generally considered directional lighting which  is aimed at an object or a feature in a space.  It is a way to make something stand out in the space or to create a visual separation. It can also add drama to a room by creating visual interest.

Flood lights, spot lights, track lights and even sconces can be used to create this effect.  Shining a light at a painting or framing a fireplace mantle with two sconces can draw the eye to the location in room. You can also use accent lighting to highlight paintings, houseplants, sculptures, the texture of a wall or drapery.

The important thing to remember is that this type of lighting should be subtle and not distracting. You want to accent and not flood the room with light.
